Counterproductive food: Obesity of the malnourished

Gluttony evidences satiety—if masochism evidences joy.

A common-enough myth is that obesity evidences abundance — that fatness suggest a measure of affluence. Meanwhile, obesity evidences a malnutrition brought by a desperate (and futile) indulgence in counterproductive foods: those foods that, in some or all nutritional aspects, cost more to pass through the body than what they provide to the body.
